FUTURE CREATIVES INITIATIVE
The Future Creatives Initiative invited up-and-coming women Screenwriters to submit their scripts for the opportunity to be awarded with the 'Emerging Screenwriter Award'. The winner script was made into a film by Taival Films, and premiered at MWFF.
ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
One of the biggest problems we are facing in the film industry, is that there are not enough women in key creatives roles and we want to help change that.
Our solution at Taival Films is to help and empower other women in the industry to succeed and find the next generation of women filmmakers in Victoria, Australia.
The initiative is supported by the Melbourne Women in Film Festival.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
There are not enough women in key creative roles in the film industry.
According to Screen Australia only 21% of Australian Screenwriters are women.
We know this percentage would be greater if women were more often granted a seat at the table amongst men, as equals.
There are already great initiatives around to help female Filmmakers forge their careers,
but we believe there is more to be done.
Taival Films wants to offer a platform for women to share their thoughts and stories through film.
With the Future Creatives Initiative, we opened the floor first for emerging women Screenwriters in Victoria 2018 to submit their scripts to be considered for the 'Emerging Screenwriter Award 2019'.
Shortlisted applicants pitched their ideas in front of a panel of judges, within the 2019 February MWFF season, in Melbourne. The winner script "Stalling" written by Nik James, was produced into a film in 2019.
